Mardi Gras in Minden Louisiana is fun for the family.
Minden’s Mardi Gras is not the oldest by far, Mobile, AL is the is the oldest annual Carnival celebration in the United States, started by Frenchman Nicholas Langlois in 1703. This was fifteen years before New Orleans was founded, although today New Orleans celebrations are more widely known. Minden, a city located in north Louisiana, also celebrates Mardi Gras with a parade that runs through downtown and in front of the Huffman House Bed and Breakfast located in the Minden Residential Historic District. Minden’s celebration is family friendly. The true origins of Mardi Gras can be traced all the way back to ancient Greece and Rome, when early Christians with Pagan roots feasted and celebrated ahead of the somber days of Lent. Minden’s Mardi Gras celebration incorporate its German heritage but never looses site of the fun and frivolity that is Mardi Gras.
There are three colors that are traditionally associated with Mardi Gras Purple, Green and Gold. The Purple stands for “Justice” the Green for “Faith” and the Gold for “Power” The Huffman House will be adorned with these three colors form January 10th until “Fat Tuesday”. “Fat Tuesday” is always the day before Ash Wednesday.

This will be the 24th year that Minden Main Street has produced the Minden Mardi Gras Parade and the 6th year Minden will celebrate “Fasching”. Fasching in the German version of Mardi Gras. A full day of festival activities is planned beginning at 10:00 AM in historic downtown Minden with carnival rides, clowns, stilt walkers and face painting, culminating with the parade at 5:00 PM, no fees for admission. The Fasching aka Mardi Gras in Minden is a family friendly safe parade, with free parking.
Huffman House does not have a liquor license and does not serve any product with alcohol.
